You will learn to apply CBT techniques in real-world scenarios, honing your ability to establish therapeutic relationships, actively listen, and communicate empathetically. Practical exercises and supervised sessions provide hands-on experience, allowing you to put your knowledge into action. Collectively, you be will be equipped with a profound knowledge of CBT theory, practical counselling skills, a nuanced understanding of human development, and the ability to adapt and integrate various counselling approaches. In the second year you will explore Addiction Theory and Practice, delve into the world of addiction and substance abuse, gaining insights and tools necessary to assist individuals grappling with addiction. Relationship Counselling Theory and Practice will equip you to address the complexities of human relationships. As you progress you will gain significant insight into Understanding and Addressing Mental Health, with a specific focus on Anxiety, Depression, and Phobias. This year encourages self-reflection and personal growth, ensuring that you not only become a proficient practitioner, but also compassionate and empathetic counsellors. Qualification requirements

Applicants must have achieved a Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory (LEVEL 3), GCSE English language and Mathematics at a minimum of grade C/4. If English is not your first language you will require a recognised Level 2 English language qualification or an IELTS score of 5.5 (with 5.5 minimum in each skill) or an equivalent English Language qualification. It is the responsibility of the students to find a placement. A list of possible agencies that students can approach is provided. UCP runs a basic check that these providers registered and send any placement agencies a pack containing all the paperwork and course details. Students will have identified possible placements before enrolling on the course but most placements will not confirm this until students have enrolled. An enhanced DBS check will be undertaken by the placement provider. UCP provides a ‘placement pack’ to help students and placement providers.
