Course summary

The Software Engineering programme is aimed at those motivated by the value of an engineering approach to the development of software systems and who enjoy finding elegant solutions to complex software problems. The demand for these graduates from the software industry is relentless. You will be equipped with the skills necessary to work in the software industry or a commercial IT department having gained expertise in the analysis and implementation of the engineering process and the assurance of an advanced knowledge of supportive software engineering techniques. You will study the theory and principles of programming and software development and put them into practice using a variety of contemporary programming languages and tools. You will develop programming expertise in a variety of languages, for example Python and Java, and examine areas such as Information Infrastructures, Professional Skills, Software Quality, Physical Computing and Web Development. Given the variety of computing applications in the Software Engineering field, there are a number of jobs that will be accessible for a Software Engineering graduate such as Software Developer, Database Engineer, Reliability Engineering, Software Testing Engineer and Security Specialist.

English language requirements

English Language Requirements for International Applicants: The minimum requirement for this course is Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5. Trinity ISE: Pass at Level III also meets this requirement for Tier 4 Visa purposes. Ulster recognises a number of other English language tests and comparable IELTS equivalent scores.
