Course summary

Studied via distance learning, this standalone module provides a comprehensive exploration of tinnitus management, focusing on the development and delivery of rehabilitative services for individuals with tinnitus and related conditions such as hyperacusis. The indicative content of the module includes an introduction to the mechanisms of tinnitus, current approaches to managing tinnitus and hyperacusis, and the assessment and evaluation of these conditions. It also covers the principles of delivering patient-centered services, emphasising shared decision-making and explores sound enrichment strategies in the management of tinnitus and hyperacusis. On successful completion of this module you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate critical awareness of the clinical applicability of current tinnitus research in managing tinnitus patients/clients.
  • Demonstrate independence in researching, planning and writing assignments.
  • Demonstrate recognition of the elements required in the delivery of patient/client-centred service.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely using advanced concept and terminology.

Assessment method

Assessment is by coursework submitted throughout the course. Coursework will take the form of four short essays (700 words each) and a final 2,000-word essay.
