Course summary

In a town shaped by centuries of textile innovation, Huddersfield offers a unique space to reimagine the future of costume and textiles. This master’s course invites you to build on that legacy, exploring how costume can reflect contemporary culture, performance and identity. At Huddersfield, costume is more than garment-making. It is a form of storytelling, a way to experiment with materials, and a place where tradition meets technology. You’ll have access to specialist studios and workshops, with support from expert staff who understand both the craft and creative possibilities of costume and textile design. From sustainable garment construction to digital fabrication and performance textiles, you will be encouraged to explore, collaborate and challenge conventions. Your studies will be shaped by a project that reflects your personal interests and career goals. As part of a creative community of artists, designers and researchers, you’ll have opportunities to collaborate and engage with wider professional networks. This course is designed for those who want to create work that makes an impact, offering the space and support to explore costume and textiles as expansive, creative practices and develop your own professional voice.
