Aberdeen Law School offers the opportunity of a highly-ranked two-year LLB programme for graduates in other subjects with a good honours degree. You’ll gain all the benefits of combining our trademark breadth, depth, choice and quality at the highly-ranked Aberdeen Law School, with all the necessary subjects to proceed to the next stage of academic training in Scotland, England , Wales or Northern Ireland. This LLB Accelerated Law with English Law programme is a graduate law degree which allows non-law graduates to achieve a dual-qualifying Scots and English LLB in just two years. If you already have a good undergraduate degree in a subject other than law, this is your route to qualifying (in any of the UK's four jurisdictions) without any compromise on quality. Places are limited and this is a very highly sought programme. Our Law School is ranked 5th in the UK out of more than 90 law schools (The Times GUG and CUG 2019). Law at Aberdeen looks at the historical, social, political and economic forces that influence our legal systems and govern our societies. You’ll learn to think like a lawyer rather than just 'learn' law. A major factor in our quality is the calibre and enthusiasm of our staff, testing your mental agility with complex, realistic legal scenarios as you get to grips with criminal, public and private law, legal systems, contracts, human rights, and explore family law, the law of property, and legal aspects of the EU. You’ll also have lots of opportunity to hone your developing legal skills in student-led initiatives such as mock legal debating, our highly active Law Society, the students’ journal in which your work may be published, and our community law clinic – the Aberdeen Law Project. Should you practise law, you'll enjoy a wide variety of career options within the law itself. However more than a third of Aberdeen law graduates now choose to use their law degree as a passport for entry into a wide range of careers including business, media, finance and banking, teaching, governmental bodies and departments, and the police force. Graduates wishing to apply for an LLB must apply for the 2-year LLB Accelerated degree – Law Accelerated (M115) or Law with English Law Accelerated (M116). Tuition fees for the Accelerated programmes are at a separate rate. In the event that a Graduate undertakes a 4-year or 5-year LLB degree, please note that tuition fees are charged each year of study at the same rate as those set for the Accelerated programme.

Assessment method
The use of various forms of assessment and learning environments facilitates the development of generic transferable skills enhancing student employability. Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods: coursework such as essays and reports completed throughout the course; practical assessments of the skills and competencies they learn on the course; and written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Honours projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation.

International applicants
In addition to tuition fees, students will require money to cover their living costs including accommodation, food, books, entertainment, clothing, phone bills, local travel, and laundry. These expenses will vary depending on your lifestyle and spending habits. In keeping with UKVI rules, we recommend that student’s budget £1,136 per month to cover their living costs and you have to evidence 9 months’ worth of maintenance (£10,224) when applying for your visa. You also have to pay the NHS health surcharge of £776 per each year of study, when applying for a visa. When you apply for your Student Visa, you will be required to evidence these funds in your personal bank account (or a parent’s personal bank account (NOT a Business Account). Therefore, you will have to evidence your 1st years tuition fees (minus the International Scholarship for self-paying students) and the maintenance amount of £10,224. These funds have to have been in your account for a minimum of 28-consecutive days immediately prior to applying for your visa. If the amount in your account drops below the required amount, the 28-day period starts over. International students who will be studying for more than 6 months are permitted to work for 20 hours per week during term-time, though this may be increased during the holiday periods. Please note this must not be relied upon as a means to fund your studies, as you have to evidence your funding when applying for your Student Visa.

Standard entry requirements are a previous undergraduate Honours degree, in any subject, at 2:1 or equivalent, or an ordinary degree at 60% or above, or 3.3 CGPA or above. Professional experience can also be taken into account. Higher English is highly desirable. Higher ESOL is also recognised in lieu of Higher English where the mother tongue is not English. Where a combination of H and AH is offered, individual subjects are counted at one level only. Standard Grade or National 5 in English required.
