Course summary

Sport Science is a relatively new academic field, but one that is dynamic and exciting. The Sport Science degree programme has been designed to prepare our graduates for the world of work and graduating students will be well equipped to enter employment in a variety of sport related settings. Not only will students gain industry standard skills, working with lab equipment, and working in sport related fields, but students will also gain a plethora of transferable skills that will help our graduate succeed in any field of employment. The programme offers a research backed multi-disciplinary approach to studying and applying knowledge of sport and exercise in a health, educational and professional context. Opportunities are also provided to specific study areas of interest through the completion of a dissertation. Students will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities based at the Cities premier sporting venue, the Eco-power Stadium. Students will also be based at Doncaster Athletics track, located within the Stadium. Students will have access to the Sport Science Clinic for practical work, the stadiums on site gym facilities at our Eco power stadium site, plus our laboratories. Students will gain hands on experience with industry standard equipment, such as; VO2 Max Oxygen analysis, Blood Lactate testing, Hydration testing, Opti Jump systems, Game Ready, Inplay Sport analysis, Normatec and much more.

Modules

This course includes the following core modules that all students complete: The Sport Science degree has been designed to give graduates a wide range of skills across multi disciplines. We have a mixture of practical modules and theoretical modules. (Modules subject to change) Level 4 • Introduction into Research • Foundations of Physiology and Nutrition •Musculoskeletal Anatomy (Lab based) • Biomechanics of Movement (Lab & class based) • Physiological support for athletes (Lab & Field based) • Sport Analysis Level 5 • Nutrition for Sport performance and Health • Employability and work placement • Sport and exercise psychology • Research Methods • Strength and Conditioning (Gym based) • Sport Therapy & Massage (Lab Based) Level 6 • Dissertation • Physical Activity and Healthy Lifestyles • Contemporary issues • Theoretical bases of rehab and injuries (Lab based) • Applied sport Psychology Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Students will be notified when applicable.

Assessment method

We use a large variety of assessments across the programme. These range from; traditional essay style assessments, to lab work, practical assessments, and novel assessments such as, website creation. These have all been designed with the dynamic sport industry at minds, to help prepare you for the real world and gain employment.
