Course summary

This foundation degree in Floristry Design is focused on developing your knowledge and understanding of a broad range of floristry skills and techniques, supported with essential theoretical studies. The programme is designed to help you gain a firm understanding of essential commercial floristry skills and to give you the ability to develop these skills further, becoming confident with contemporary techniques and a wide range of approaches to floristry design. The will experience a real life work environment for a learn whilst doing approach, allowing your development of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills. What will I study? Year 1:

  • Floristry Enterprise and Entrepreneurship - 20 credits
Learning and Teaching Approach This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom. What is the Contact Time? For each 20 credit module students will receive approximately 54 hours of class / contact time with the tutor. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (146 hours per module). Students can expect to receive their timetables during induction week. What else can I expect?

Assessment method

The assessment methods used will require you to use a range of approaches demonstrating knowledge and skills across a range of contexts. By adopting a wider range of assessment methods, it will promote a more inclusive approach with consideration to individual learning styles. Assessment includes written assignments, presentations, practical work, online portfolio and coursework. There are no formal examinations. Opportunities for feedback on assessments are available prior to the final submission to support your development and achievement. Staff aim to return assessed work within a 20 working day timeframe (not including holidays) so that you can most benefit from the feedback.

International applicants

University Centre Bishop Burton welcomes applicants from overseas. You will need to be issued with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) to apply for your student visa to the UK. You will need to pay your course fees in full prior to a CAS being sent to you. Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

Life and/or experience of non-traditional students will be taken into account when considering applications. The successful completion of an entry task may be required when considering applications without the required formal entry qualifications. Advanced entry may be possible due to prior experience or certificated learning; applicants will be invited to complete the recognition of prior learning approval process.

GCSE English at grade C/4 or above or equivalent. A suitable reference.


English language requirements

If first language is not English, or a Tier 4 student visa to study is required and GCSE grade C/4 English or equivalent is not held, English language proficiency level such as International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6.0 overall (with a minimum 5.5 in each skill) will need evidencing.
