Course summary

Our online MA Education is a 24-month-long course that develops educational knowledge, understanding and transferable skills while deepening insights into innovative education theory and practice. Using an interdisciplinary approach led by the Surrey Institute of Education, the course prepares those with a passion for education either to move into an education-related role or advance in an education-related career. About this course This online MA Education is designed to deepen your insights into education through exposure to a diverse array of educational contexts across disciplines, fields and borders. The course is ideal either for those who wish to move into an education-related role but do not require teaching accreditation, or for those who want to advance in their education-related career. No matter your professional goals, this online masters in education equips you for career pathways in education-related research, leadership, theory, practice and policy-making. MA Education focuses on nurturing disruptive thinking and broadening participants’ insights into education with an array of educational contexts across disciplines, fields and borders. Participants can expect to engage with richly diverse perspectives on education theory, policy, research and practice. What you will study The online MA Education course focuses on nurturing critical thinking with the aim of enhancing education in a variety of contexts through innovative research that has an impact on educational policy, practice and thinking. Under the guidance of experienced and approachable lectures, participants will critically engage with the philosophical and psychological foundations of education, design learner-centred educational experiences that address diverse needs and contexts, effectively communicate ideas on a range of education-related topics to diverse audiences and more. The curriculum is delivered through a combination of asynchronous teaching and learning activities and regular live sessions. It culminates in an original research project that provides an opportunity to explore, in depth, an educational topic. Online learning experience Learn from leading academics in the field As a student in the MA Education course, you’ll learn from our institute members who are experienced practitioners and active researchers. In addition to contributing to the study of education, our lecturers integrate their research into their own teaching spaces, using it to inform and enrich their practice and your online learning experience. Career Opportunities As a broad-based course, the online MA Education prepares you for a diverse range of career paths beyond student-facing roles. Although the MA would benefit any practicing teaching professional who wishes to enrich their practice with deeper insights and understanding, graduates of the course could also pursue further research, contribute to education- and development-related projects or shape and implement educational policies. Although a teaching qualification is not a prerequisite of the course, it is important to note that the MA Education does not prepare participants to enter their roles as accredited teachers. Nevertheless, completing the course equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to pursue education-related roles in their field of choice.
