WHY STUDY THIS COURSE? The UK games sector is the largest in Europe and the sector is rapidly growing. Ukie’s annual consumer market valuation showed in 2020 the overall UK games market grew a staggering 30% from the previous year to reach a record £7bn in consumer spend. The Games industry is a highly skills-based industry seeking graduate employment. A typical games studio will have 80 per cent of staff qualified to degree level or above. Not only have you the opportunity to design games for the wider games industry, but specifically with the partnership with the British Esports Federation and its network to focus part of the course in the design and development of esports games The aims of this course are: • To prepare you for a career in the global games or esports industry with the skills of enquiry, within an evidence-based practice-led, knowledge applied interdisciplinary curriculum and performative research framework. • To prepare you with the competencies needed to adapt and thrive in life’s continuously changing environments, employment and an increasingly diverse global society. • To prepare your moral and ethical compass through opportunities to reflect personally and professionally, make an active contribution as global citizens. Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: • To demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of games 3D asset workflows in multiple areas of games art • To demonstrate industry level competencies in games documentation and project management skills • To develop leadership skills in the art production of games • To further the field in understanding what it takes to create the art assets esports games Degree Content & Learning Approach: You will study three main areas at Level 4 (1st Year): 3D Modelling, Art visualisation and Games Production. This will give you the ability to appreciate the fundamental workflows games art in a production setting. The main feature of Level 5 (2nd Year) is that you are the Junior Games Development: Pre-Production/Production and the Junior Games Development units. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Design and Games Development Students as the junior games artist to produce a game. You will work under the senior games artist who is a Level 6 student studying the Senior Games Development: Pre-Production and Senior Games Development: Production units. You will also study supporting units such as 3D Vehicle and Character modelling which further your competencies in games art The main feature of Level 6 (3rd Year) is the Final Year Project. This will allow you to demonstrate the area you have most passion for and to take this to a deeper level of knowledge and understanding. Level 6 will also challenge and hone your leadership skills as you act as senior games artists in the Senior Games Development: Pre-Production and Senior Games Development: Production units. In these units you will work in a multidisciplinary team alongside the Games Design and Games Development Students as the senior games artist to produce a game as well as having responsibility for the junior artists in that team As College of Esports is the world’s first university level institution dedicated to the business of esports you have a unique opportunity in your final year to study specifically the design of art assets for esports games to meet the everchanging and growing esports games market. As part of this we will also introduce you to the health and wellbeing of hybrid and remote working in games development from both a leadership and personal point of view
