The Foundation Degree in Learning and Teaching (FDLT) is designed for support staff who are currently working in specialist SEND and inclusive settings and who wish to gain a recognised qualification specific to their role. The course aims to broaden and deepen their understanding of the context of education and development and strengthen their ability to support children’s learning and development within the wider life of the setting. Participants are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of their work by analysing it in the context of relevant principles and research. Two years’ experience of supporting learning in educational settings is required. This can be a mixture of volunteering and employment. Applicants will also need to be working in an educational setting for a minimum of 2.5 days a week to support their studies. Applicants will require a positive employer reference from their Head teacher (or equivalent) stating their support for study during term time if this is not on their UCAS forms.
