Course summary

The MSc Sport Business and Leadership programme is designed for individuals who wish to develop their impact and effectiveness in leading and managing individuals, teams, and organisations within the sport business industry. You will gain a critical understanding of the complexity, contradictions, and controversies of leadership and its application to social, environmental and economic issues that are essential to leadership and management as they pertain to the sport industry. This is supported by world-class teaching from our academic team that will help you develop a deep understanding of the latest leadership and business management techniques. This master’s programme will give you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the business of sport, and in doing so enhance your leadership capacity and business acumen in relation to the complex and rapidly emerging global sport business environment. You will also visit several influential sport leadership environments and receive industry advice from top leaders in their field. The Institute for Sport Business is proud to partner with a number of London-based leaders in sport, such as World Rugby, BT Sport, CSM Strategic, West Ham United Foundation, Sport England and, Chelsea Football Club. Through these partnerships you will learn how to connect theory with practice by attending a number of inspiring field visits. Past visits have included Sandhurst Military Academy, The Royal Opera, UK Sport, KPMG, the RFU, Google, and Wimbledon. For those wishing to prepare for careers in middle and senior leadership positions in a range of sectors, including commercial, not-for-profit and international sporting organisations, this programme is for you.

Assessment method

You can expect to complete essays and reports of varying lengths, as well as presentations, proposals and case studies in some cases. Assessment will vary across modules and will include a mix of individual and group assessment types.


Entry requirements

A 2:1 honours degree (with a minimum of 60% in final year), or equivalent international qualification, in wide range of disciplines.


English language requirements

English Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) or equivalent.
