Course summary
The Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles will develop knowledge and understanding of fashion and textiles design with emphasis on demonstrating your ability to work independently improving your drawing and constructive skills. A range of print, stitch, knit, weaves and felt constructed textile workshops will be delivered in order for you to become familiar with experimental techniques using traditional processes. Digital workshops will allow you to become familiar with the use of Photoshop and Illustrator enabling you to scan and manipulate your fashion and textile designs. Basic pattern cutting skills will be addressed and you will develop your knowledge of garment construction techniques. In Year Two, you will further develop your knowledge and understanding of combining traditional techniques with contemporary processes. You will have the opportunity to learn design repeat and construct garments using fabric manipulation techniques. Advanced research methods will allow you to recognise trending forecasts supporting you to produce innovative and original bespoke designs. Workshops will include the use of fashion styling and promotion. Visiting lecturers and guest speakers will support you in recognising industry standards and allow you to showcase your collection of work imaginatively. Throughout the course you will have the chance to engage in local and national competitions and showcase events, offering you the chance to build industry contacts and work experience opportunities. In addition, you will be able to learn the core functions of marketing and operations within a business organisation allowing you the opportunity to run your own business venture. Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work, analysis of live fashion events and textile craft fairs. Guest speakers from different areas of the fashion and textiles industry will facilitate professional workshops and Q&A sessions. Students will be involved in local and national showcasing events, competitions and freelance work.

Qualification requirements
For students entering via the optional Foundation Entry route, the following admission criteria will apply: - Portfolio and successful individual interview. In lieu of a portfolio, applicants may complete a project as an alternative demonstration of ability. UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered towards meeting the general entry requirements. For students entering directly onto the Foundation Degree, the following admission criteria will apply: - UK Applicants: Except in exceptional circumstances, UK applicants must attend an interview with portfolio. Once your application has been processed you will be sent a letter stating the date you that you are required to attend, and what will be required of you. If it is not possible for you to attend on the date proposed, please contact us to rearrange a date or agree alternative arrangements. • All successful candidates must have achieved the following: • Achieve a minimum of 160 UCAS tariff points at A2 or equivalent • Grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and English or an equivalent; UK equivalents include key skills level 3 or functional skills level 2 European Applicants: European applicants may not be able to attend an interview in the UK. Once your application has been processed, you should submit an e-portfolio, CD or DVD of your recent work; this will be followed by a telephone interview.

Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.

Additional Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum entry requirement for a course does not necessarily guarantee a place. Entry to all courses is subject to a successful interview. When assessing an application, we take into account your grades, predicted grades, reference and personal statement. From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition, or you may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: To gain access to some courses you may need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. English language requirements
EU students, for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include: • TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4) • TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230 • Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above
