Course summary

"Explore Biodiversity and Conservation at a global top 100* university. This MSc in Biodicersity and Conservation draws on our world-class reputation for environmental research and offers an industry-relevant education for highly-skilled environmental scientists. You'll learn how to accurately monitor species diversity, change, population abundance and distribution, and how to apply these skills to protect the world’s ecosystems and habitats. On completing the course, you'll be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

  • The importance of environmental concepts, terms, principles and methods
  • The value of using techniques and ideas in different subject disciplines
  • The socioeconomic context of environmental issues and the legal framework through which environmental regulation is facilitated
  • Current issues, paradigms and approaches within a specialist subject area of the environmental sciences
  • The contribution of science, engineering and communication to the identification and understanding of environmental issues and concerns
  • The human causes and consequences of environmental impacts and responses to such impacts.
You’ll have the chance to apply geographical information systems, modelling and spatial analysis and acquire the interdisciplinary skills required for effective research project management. Assessment method

Depending on the modules you choose, we’ll assess you through a combination of essays, reports, policy briefs, impact statements, environmental management (iso14001) audits, literature reviews, journal articles, presentations, practical and written examinations.


How to apply

International applicants

English language requirements: band C, IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all components.

Entry requirements

Upper Second Class Honours degree in a science related subject from an approved University. IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any component. Applications are assessed on an individual basis and we encourage candidates with alternative qualifications plus relevant experience in the environmental sector to apply.
