Course summary
The MA Professional Media Composition goes beyond traditional film scoring Masters, equipping students with comprehensive skills for a variety of media. You'll learn how to compose for films, television, trailers, documentaries, animation, games, library music and more. The program combines hands-on projects reflecting real industry demands with lessons from working media composers. This course caters to all musical talents, focusing on composing marketable music, producing demos, and mastering film scoring technicalities. The Practical Film Scoring Masters The course is extremely practical and you will spend most of your time working on real-world projects. We’re not just looking for orchestral composers. Electronic musicians, guitarists and experimental composers are all more than welcome. On this course, you will learn to:

- Compose in a wide range of styles using different technical and creative approaches.
- Produce professional quality demos and sampled mockups.

Modules
Students will complete these core modules: Module 1 – Writing In Styles Module 2 - Writing To A Brief Module 3 – Research and Critical Reflection Module 4 – Scoring To Picture Module 5 – Composing For Drama Module 6 – Elective Final Major Project or Dissertation
Assessment method
For the vast majority of the course, you will be entirely graded on your practical ability. All assignments come with written write-ups where you will detail your approach. Each module will have at least one 'Formative' assignment, which is considered research and practice for the final 'Summative' assignment, which will be your final grade for that module. All Summative assignments are marked at least twice.
Entry requirements
Applicants are required to have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in any subject. A limited number of places are available for non-degree holders, under the 'Recognition of Prior Learning' application method. We also require applicants to complete a short application task, and potentially submit a portfolio of work depending on the course. All information can be found on the course page on our website.
