About the course How music is recorded, mixed and mastered is as integral to the creative process as composition and performance. Our BA (Hons) Music and Sound Production course gives you the chance to create music and sound in a variety of contexts. It fundamentally allows you to pursue a fulfilling career in a range of music industry roles. The course will provide you with everything you need to bring your technical knowledge and creativity to live and studio settings. You’ll also know the fundamentals required to work with artists. During the course, you will undertake hands-on learning in our high-tech facilities and have direct access to cutting-edge equipment and software. World-class industry lecturers who know the ins and outs of the creative process will be with you every step of the way, offering direction and support. Through the core modules, you’ll focus on primary areas such as audio fundamentals, music production in context, practical studio engineering and software skills, application of acoustic theory and approaches to answering professional briefs. Alongside developing your technical knowledge, you’ll broaden your general knowledge of the industry, helping you to identify your place within it. You’ll build the necessary skills and understanding you need to become a successful music producer, with a sustainable career in the music industry. You will also have the opportunity to choose modules. These optional modules will help you to focus your studies and create the career route that’s right for you. The options you choose can help you forge a successful career in a range of music-based industries. These include the recording industry, the live music industry, the film and TV industry, the audio postproduction industry and education industry. So, what are you waiting for? Students can expect to study the following core modules: Year 1 The Creative Industries and you 1: Finding your path Context and culture of the creative industries Audio Fundamentals Music and Listening Skills Audio capture methods and equipment Approaches to production and workflow Mixing Multi track audio Industry toolkit Year 2 The Creative Industries and you 2: Creative collaboration Creativity, identity and Agency Music Production in Context Studio Practice and Engineering Practical Acoustics Year 3 Final Project The Creative Industries and you 3: Professional Portfolio Answering a creative brief. Assessment method
Assessment methods are varied and balanced to suit a wide range of students and may take practical, written, portfolio or other form. Students are given the opportunity to work collaboratively with those studying other music related disciplines, representative of the way in which the Music and wider Creative Industries also require collaboration. All written and portfolio assessments are submitted electronically by way of a Virtual Learning Environment and where possible, feedback is delivered in audio and/or video form, as well as written. BIMM University welcomes applicants from International countries that will require a student visa to study in the UK. Applicants must meet requirements set by UKVI. Upon acceptance of an offer you will be required to attend a consultation with a member of the International Admissions team. International students can currently study at our Brighton, Bristol, London and Manchester campuses.

Once your application is received, you will be contacted by a member of the admissions team to arrange an audition in person or by a demo submission. You will be required to present a portfolio of your work. Full guidelines on what to prepare will be emailed to you.

Our auditions and interviews are conducted in a relaxed and supportive manner. They are as much about you assessing us and making sure BIMM Institute is the right place for you to study. The audition or interview also gives you another opportunity to learn more about the course you have applied for. Auditions, Interviews and Portfolio Submissions Depending on which course you choose, you may need to attend an audition, interview or submit a portfolio of work as part of your application. We have plenty of handy resources online to help you prepare for your audition or interview. The BIMM Institute Admissions Team will also send you preparation guidelines, which will be specifically for the course you have applied for.
