Course summary

This programme offers a recognised higher education qualification in the health, care, and education of children and young people. Modules

Year One In the first year, you will explore the foundations of child development and wellbeing. You will learn about the key principles of health and social care, including child-centred approaches and effective problem-solving techniques. This year focuses on Equality, inclusion and digital equity as well as management, organisational behaviour and digital change. Children and Young People’s Development and Wellbeing (20 credits) Psychology in Health and Social Care (20 credits) Learning in the Digital Era (20 credits) Contemporary Challenges: Making a Difference (20 credits) Equality, Inclusion and Digital Equity (20 credits) Management, Organisational Behaviour and Digital Change (20 credits) Year Two The second year deepens your understanding of contemporary challenges in the sector. You will study public health and its impact on communities, learning to address global health issues. The curriculum includes Protecting and Supporting Families in Health and Care, enhancing your competence in real-world settings. Changemakers: Creativity and Value Creation (20 credits) Protecting and Supporting Families in Health and Care (20 credits) Changemakers: Building your Personal Brand for Sustainable Employment (20 credits) Principles of Health and Social Care Practice (20 credits) Children and Young People's Health, Wellbeing and Community Engagement (20 Credits) Introduction to independent Research Skills (20 Credits) Year Three In your final year, you will engage in advanced studies and research methods, preparing you for your independent research project. You will also focus on service development and delivery, digital transformation in the health and care professions, and creating positive change in health and social care. This year prepares you for diverse career paths in the public, private, and voluntary sectors. Assessment method

Assessments include: essays, exams, reports, presentations, reflective blogs and professional portfolios. You will be asked to utilise information technology communication and organisational skills for your assignments.

If you are not from the UK and you do not already have residency here, you may need to apply for a visa.   For courses of more than six months’ duration you will require a Student visa.   International students who require a Student visa should apply for our full-time courses as these qualify for Student visa sponsorship.    For full information read our visa application and guides.     Please note students receiving US Federal Aid are only able to apply for in-person, on-campus programmes which will have no elements of online study.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, our usual requirement is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in each of the sub-tests. We also accept other English language tests.

Additional fee information

You are encouraged to continue or enter employment in the health, care or support sectors in order to enhance your studies. We recommend that you pay for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update option if you do not already have one in place. This however is not compulsory for the purposes of the programme.
