Course summary

Visual effects is a multimillion-pound adjunct to the film, games and animation industries. A visual effects technical director (TD) is a specialist with the critical and creative acumen to solve digital workflow and production pipeline challenges using procedural animation and scripting to create effects and make digital tools for artists. TD’s exist in multiple areas of production supporting lighting, pipeline, effects, dynamics, and animation with their technical problem-solving skills. Teaching you on state-of-the-art industry-standard hardware and software, with opportunities to work collaboratively with game artists, animators, live-action filmmakers and VFX artists, this course will advance your technical problem-solving skills preparing you for your career as a visual effects TD with 100% course work. Modules include: Introduction to Programming Scripting for Digital Art and Effects Progressing Visual Effects Technical Direction Visual Effects Studio Screen Arts Portfolio Visual Effects Entrepreneurship Visual Effects Production Graduates will be prepared for a broad range of careers in visual effects. This could include roles such as 3D modeller, effects TD, procedural effects animator, character TD (rigger), creature TD, pipeline TD and software developer. Additional fee information

The UK Government recently announced an increase to the Home Undergraduate tuition fee from £9,250 (the 2024 entry fee) to £9,535 for 2025 entry. This is subject to Parliamentary approval and is therefore still to be confirmed. The current expectation is that the NTU tuition fee for 2025 entry will be £9,535.
