Course summary

Our BA (Hons) Voice (Performance and Pedagogy) degree is for aspiring voice professionals and future voice teachers who have a passion for singing or want to bring out the best in others’ voices. You’ll focus on vocal performance, industry skills and pedagogy, and develop a comprehensive foundation in technical skills and methodologies. Whatever your musical interests – pop, classical, jazz, folk or musical theatre – you’ll focus on a genre of your choice, explore a range of different musical styles under our expert guidance and explore all aspects of vocal techniques and practices. Through tailored one-to-one tuition and taught group sessions with voice professionals, you’ll learn the discipline of performance and stage craft and have the creative freedom to collaborate with other students. You’ll explore a wide range of career possibilities for voice professionals including community music, music therapy and vocal tuition while refining your proficiency as a performer and versatile voice practitioner. You’ll have opportunities to engage with music technologies, and develop teaching, vocal health, music theory, composition, voice acting and music business skills you’ll need to cultivate a successful career in the music industry and beyond.

Assessment method

By employing a variety of assessment methods, the BA Voice (Performance & Pedagogy) aims to comprehensively evaluate students’ progress, knowledge, skills and reflections, while providing them with valuable feedback and support to further their development. Assessment methods include: Vocal Performance; Teaching Practicum Assessments; Research and academic writing / presentation; Portfolio Submission

Qualification requirements

Additional entry requirements: Applicants should also have achieved a minimum of three GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above. UCAS tariff points from music graded exams are also accepted (highest achieved per instrument (grade 6 and above), awarded by ABRSM, London College of Music, Trinity College, Rock School). All applicants will be required to either attend an audition or submit a portfolio of work. Please see https://www.leedsconservatoire.ac.uk/audition for up to date details of our audition process. English Language requirements: All applicants must meet the minimum English Language requirement, as set by the conservatoire. For UK applicants this is GCSE English Language at grade C/4. Equivalent qualifications, such as Functional Skills English Level 2 or National 5 English grade C, will also be accepted. For applicants that require a Student Visa to study in the UK, the standard requirement is IELTS 6.0 with no sub-test less than 5.5.
