What To Expect The BA (Hons) Makeup, Hair and Prosthetics offers a unique student-centred experience exploring a diverse range of makeup disciplines. Our hands-on, practical studio-based learning approach equips you with the skills needed to excel as a makeup, hair, wig, and prosthetic artist in theatre, fashion, editorial, music, and film. You’ll engage with and master various techniques, including makeup design, digital effects, hairdressing, textured hair work, wig making, sculpting, mould making, facial scanning, and 3D printing for silicone and foam latex prosthetics. Your creative and technical practice is enhanced by examining essential topics relevant to makeup artistry, such as identity, beauty concepts, characterisation, representation, semiotics, ethics, and sustainability. Industry-led projects and curriculum opportunities help you build strong professional skills, enabling informed decisions about your specialist makeup practice and future career. Our unique teaching model places you in real-world production settings, allowing you to collaborate with models, actors, fashion designers, filmmakers, directors, and photographers. This hands-on experience addresses industry skill gaps and boosts employability while nurturing practical knowledge and individual resilience. Building a portfolio that reflects your identity as a creative makeup practitioner prepares you to graduate as a skilled and innovative artist ready to initiate and communicate ideas. Cultivating Career-Ready Skills Your journey is not just about your university experiences; it's about building a future. Between your second and third year of study, you have the option of taking a Professional Placement Year. You take charge of securing your own placement, with guidance from your course team. Opting for this path will boost your industry experience and skills while you continue your studies. You'll be expected to document your experiences, the skills you've acquired, and your professional development. Choosing this option now does not tie you into taking the Professional Placement Year. Once you're here and studying with us, the course team will discuss the placement options with you, so when the time comes, you can make a decision that's right for you. Qualification requirements

We are happy to accept a wide range of qualifications, including but not limited to: A Levels, BTEC Extended Diploma, OCR Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma, BTEC Subsidiary Diploma(s), Access to HE courses, Scottish Highers, IB Diploma Programme, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. We can also accept many EU and International qualifications. See website for details. Email Admissions ([email protected]) with any queries about entry requirements. We welcome applicants who are currently studying or who have gained a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and this qualification meets our level three entry requirements. This is a recommended qualification for many of our courses but it is not a compulsory qualification. Other relevant and equivalent Level 3 qualifications are considered on an individual basis and we are happy to accept applicants with a combination of Level 3 qualifications. Please check your qualifications using UCAS Tariff calculator and remember we are looking for the equivalent of 3 A levels if you are combining Level 3 qualifications. AUB tailors its offers to the qualifications an applicant is studying and looks for applicant to be studying a relevant creative subject. AUB makes offers based on up to three A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications with the most UCAS Tariff points attached to them to give applicants the best chance possible at achieving our required tariff (120 UCAS Tariff points in most cases).
