Course summary
The fashion media landscape is constantly evolving, and with our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Styling degree you’ll learn the essential skills needed for a successful career in fashion media or styling. You’ll develop the aesthetic and technical skills as well as the theoretical knowledge needed to create engaging communications for the fashion industry. This course has been created in collaboration with industry to give students the most up-to-date knowledge and skills. Through lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and projects, you’ll develop the essential aesthetic, technical and communication skills required to start a career in fashion styling, PR, art direction or content creation. You will:
- Learn the technical skills needed to create engaging and exciting fashion-focused communications strategies
- Be assigned a personal industry mentor to work with throughout the course
- Develop the technical, research, creative and analytical skills needed for an image and communications-driven role
- Understand how to draw on cultural influences to create inspiring visual media
- Discover how live social channels have disrupted the fashion industry and changed the future of media broadcasting
- Work on live projects and complete work placements with our industry partners
- Complete a self-directed Personal Professional Project that allows you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge
Modules
Throughout the course you’ll develop the technical, analytical and creative skills needed for a career in fashion communications and styling and develop your understanding of fashion theory and storytelling. You’ll learn through a mix of classes and lectures, individual study, creative projects, and industry enrichment that is integrated throughout the course in the form of masterclasses, live projects, mentorship schemes and work placements. Year One The first year of study is focused on developing your understanding of the fashion image landscape and how you can use cultural influences to create exciting content for brands. You’ll also learn the components you need for a strong, persuasive message. You’ll build your knowledge of creative fashion styling from both a theoretical and practical perspective, as well as develop an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Assessment method
This course is assessed via 100% coursework. The assessment tools include, but aren’t limited to, professionally relevant projects, essays and presentations. You will complete work placements as part of the course.
