Course summary
Taught at New City College, this course is normally delivered at their Ardleigh Green campus. The Foundation Degree in Education Studies for Teaching Assistants is a two-year course for experienced teaching assistants wishing to study at a higher educational level. This course is for teaching assistants or learning and inclusion support assistants in all areas of teaching: early years, primary schools, secondary schools, special schools, and post-16 teaching. The course covers all aspects of the work of the teaching assistant, including:
- the ways children develop and learn
- appropriate and inclusive teaching methods supporting learners with additional needs
- social and emotional issues and contexts in learning
- policy and legislation
Modules
All of the modules on this course are compulsory and worth 20 credits each. Successful completion of all of the modules in the first year is worth 120 credits at Level 4 and equivalent to a Certificate of Higher Education. Assessment method
All of our teaching staff are experienced professionals in the field of education. All students are allocated a personal tutor who will be your first point of communication should you have any queries or concerns. Regular 1:1 sessions will take place within the classroom where there will be the opportunity to discuss your course and progress. Assessment is carried out in a variety of ways:

- Practice in the workplace

Access to HE Diploma - M: 30 credits
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme - 27 points
T Level - P
Appropriate accredited Level 3 qualifications (for example A-levels or vocational qualifications). Working or placement as a teaching assistant (or in a similar role). This will be assessed on an individual basis. Completion of a Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Application through Bath Spa University. We can also consider applications based upon a minimum of three years' relative work experience.
