Course summary

Study all forms of marine life and learn how to solve environmental challenges. On your four-year integrated master's degree you'll study biology and ecology within the specific context of marine systems at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), one of the world’s largest centres devoted to research, teaching and technology development in ocean and Earth science. You'll develop your understanding in a progressive fashion, adding knowledge and practical skills over time from work in the laboratory, field, and on board our research vessels. Our unique fieldwork locations will offer you the opportunity to broaden your field research in the UK and abroad. You'll study on a degree accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) with successful alumni working in a varied range of roles, fields, and industries; 97% of Ocean and Earth Science graduates were in employment or further study 15 months after graduation (Graduate Outcomes 2021/2022).
