Paramedic Science with Foundation Year at University of Wolverhampton - UCAS

Course summary

This is a 4 year degree course. Please ensure that when you apply for this course you choose Point of entry 1 in your UCAS Hub. This full-time course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required to practice as a Paramedic. On successful completion of the course, graduates will be eligible to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for registration as a paramedic. The course offers education and training in the rewarding, challenging and diverse role of a paramedic, teaching the essential emergency and urgent care skills that are needed for safe care delivery. The programme is delivered in partnership with the West Midlands Ambulance Service who will provide you with experiential learning in the out-of-hospital unscheduled care environment. You will also have opportunities to develop skills in simulation and experience placements in the wider NHS. This course will prepare you for key aspects of the paramedic role including public interaction, contributions to all aspect of community and out-of-hospital care, and working in demanding conditions and challenging environments.

There are no qualification requirements for this course.

To receive an offer to study this course you are required to successfully attend and pass a Prepare for Foundation event. This is a one-day programme which is designed to introduce you to studying a health professional course, answer your questions, meet staff and fellow students. You will take part in a variety of subject related activities to help you prepare for your course as well as undertaking your interview during the day. This event will be your opportunity to showcase your keen interest or recent experience in the subject. You will need to hold a level 2 qualification in English and Maths. We understand that not everyone is able to achieve GCSE Maths and English for a variety of reasons. Our equivalency assessments provide an opportunity for you to further your English and/or Maths skills ready for your studies, as well as being able to meet part of the entry requirements for this course. Our equivalency courses are free of charge but must be completed before your course starts.

Free Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Occupational Health Check: Due to the professional nature of this course you are also required to complete a Declaration of Health and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. We will coordinate both of these non-academic conditions with you should you accept an offer with us. There will be no cost for the DBS this is free to applicants who have secured a Conditional offer and have chosen to study at the University of Wolverhampton. Voluntary or work experience You must demonstrate that you have had some personal, voluntary or work experience in a customer care/health related field or situation. We would regard this as anything that involved attending or working with people or patients in need of caring services. It does not have to be full time but should demonstrate that you have had some exposure to this type of experience where you are able to demonstrate and/or develop your caring and compassionate aptitude towards those in need of care. Previous Study Please note we will not accept applicants onto our professional courses who have been unsuccessful on professional courses at other institutions of higher education Placements/Shift Patterns Successful applicants should be expected to be allocated 12 hour shifts that start anywhere from 0500 until 1930 and they will be expected to work nights and weekends. Placements may not necessarily be at the nearest ambulance hub or hospital Important information Please note that the first year of study for this course is at City Campus, Years 2-4 will be at Walsall Campus

If you are a UK student enrolling on a full-time Foundation Degree or a Bachelor degree programme at the University of Wolverhampton in 2023/4, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s fee requirements). If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year.
