Course summary
Develop the advanced mechanical engineering skills, competencies and knowledge you need to be successful in this field. Our programme is designed in collaboration with industry, so you’ll learn the up-to-date and relevant skills the sector needs. Skills such as six sigma, sustainability, research and project management. You’ll also carry out an individual design or research and development project – including opportunities to work on real-world engineering projects. Working with industry-standard software such as Ansys, SOLIDWORKS, windPRO and LCA, you’ll build critical digital skills. Our mechanical engineering students have open access to our state-of-the-art facilities such as our 3D printing and robotics labs. So you can practise and hone your practical engineering skills in your own time, too. You could also get involved with extra-curricular activities including the opportunity to join our thriving Robotics Society and become part of our Hull Electric Racing Team (HERT). As a member of HERT, you’ll help to build a single-seater racing car and compete against other students at Silverstone.

Assessment method
For a full Masters degree, you'll study 180 credits over the duration of your course. Some programmes offer a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) qualification or a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) qualification. For a PGDip, you'll study 120 credits, and for a PGCert, you'll study 60 credits. You will develop key professional and research skills, as well as an understanding of ethical business practice. You will also undertake a final research project, which can be either a dissertation or a business-based project.

International applicants
If you require a Student visa to study or if your first language is not English you will be required to provide acceptable evidence of your English language proficiency level. This course requires academic IELTS 6.5 overall, with no less than 5.5 in each skill. See other accepted English language proficiency qualifications. This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.

Entry requirements
Normally an Honours degree (typically 2.2 or above, or international equivalent) in an engineering or related discipline. In order to ensure our students have a rich learning and student experience, most of our programmes have a mix of domestic and international students. We reserve the right to close applications early to either group, if application volumes suggest that this blend cannot be achieved. In addition, existing undergraduate students at the University of Hull have a guaranteed ‘Fast Track’ route to any postgraduate programme, subject to meeting the entry criteria.
