Modules
SEMESTER 1 MODULE 1: CRITICAL RESEARCH (15 CREDITS) Explore a topic within your specialisation (e.g., directing, acting, producing, or writing) through academic and practical research. Develop essential skills in reflection, problem-solving, and writing that prepare you for the final project. MODULE 2: SPECIALIST NEGOTIATED PRACTICAL PROJECT (45 CREDITS) Design your own creative project based on your interests and career goals. Options include test films, music videos, showreel scenes, writers’ room sessions, pitch decks, or directing workshops. Build your creative portfolio with real, hands-on work. SEMESTER 2 MODULE 3: FILM & TV BUSINESS PRACTICES (15 CREDITS) Gain essential knowledge of the film industry, including job roles, legal frameworks, funding, and distribution. You’ll complete a case study or video profile focused on your chosen film or performing arts career path. MODULE 4: FINAL PROJECT – FILM PRACTICES (45 CREDITS) This is your chance to create a professional- grade film, performance, screenplay, or production package. Choose from: • Directing a short film • Writing an original screenplay • Acting in a filmed performance • Producing a full project Your final project will serve as a portfolio piece suitable for film festivals, online platforms, or professional submissions—helping you take the next step into the industry.
Assessment method
Assessment is through a series of assignments including research modules, hands-on practical exercises and group projects. Units are interlinked to replicate “real world” scenarios and offer the opportunity for students to build a range of skills to maximise employment opportunities.
