Course summary
If you’re passionate about fashion innovation and aspire to revolutionise the industry with your own designs, this course is for you. From sketching and prototyping to construction and branding, you’ll learn how to design and create marketable collections that combine your personal style with the needs of the consumer – producing original designs that stem from customer research, engagement and creative experimentation. You'll be guided through the art of pattern cutting, drape, garment construction, textile development, illustration and digital media – building a collection that incorporates your design philosophy while demonstrating your practical skills and industry knowledge. You'll also engage with the social, cultural and ethical issues affecting the wider industry, develop a strong eye for future fashion trends and learn how to stay at the forefront of the industry. Studying in London gives you the chance to get involved with a wide variety of campaigns, shoots, collaborations and events (from London Fashion Week to the Dezeen Design Festival) and you’ll be encouraged to regularly visit exhibitions, enter competitions and join internships – developing new relationships and gaining first-hand experience. You'll have opportunities to work on live projects with leading brands and hear first-hand accounts from industry experts about how they achieved success and what their advice is for aspiring designers. On successful completion of the course, you'll graduate as a resourceful, skilful and innovative designer, ready to establish your identity in the fashion industry.
Assessment method
This course focuses entirely on coursework, with no exams. Instead, your skills and knowledge will be assessed through practical work, presentations, projects, group work, portfolios, pitches, peer assessments, reports and sketchbooks – as well as essays, reflective writing, written analyses, reports and research.
