Course summary

OVERVIEW The BAcc Accounting provides thorough training for a career in accountancy - including financial and management accounting, taxation and audit. CEOs and boards rely on accountants to help them to make informed financial decisions that contribute to the future success of their organisation – and you can play a part in this. With an emphasis on the practical aspects of accountancy, you will gain the mix of skills, knowledge and experience needed for a stimulating and rewarding career in accountancy. ADVANCED ENTRY OPTIONS Direct entry to Year 2 (with an appropriate HNC) and Year 3 (with an appropriate HND) may be possible at our Paisley and Lanarkshire campuses. College Partnership - BAcc Top-up Degree In addition, Year 3 entry to this UWS degree is also offered at both South Lanarkshire College, New College Lanarkshire (Coatbridge Campus) and Ayrshire College under our college partnership agreements. Please note that these routes are only open to students who have completed an HND in Accounting at those institutions. Students on the BAcc at a partner college who wish to complete the Honours year will be required to attend either the Paisley or Lanarkshire campuses to do so. PRACTICAL FOCUS You will have the option to undertake a one-year placement during your course. This can either occur between the second and third year, or the third and fourth year. Placements provides essential practical experience and can boost your job prospects upon graduation. Modules

For those joining in Year 2 at our Paisley or Lanarkshire campuses with an HNC in Accounting, you will further develop your financial and management accounting expertise and will be introduced to more specialised areas of accounting such as personal tax. For all those joining in Year 3 (BAcc) either at our Paisley/Lanarkshire campuses or at one of our partner institutions, you will build upon your HND studies with in-depth studies of financial and management accounting are taught alongside core modules of accounting practice.

Assessment method

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials and workshops. There will also be group work and independent learning to ensure you develop transferable skills such as research, presentation, communication and working as part of a team. Additional fee information

TUITION FEE INFORMATION - SCOTTISH STUDENTS: Eligible Scottish domiciled students can usually apply to have their tuition fees paid for them each year of their studies by the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS). If you're not sure about your eligibility, you should contact SAAS. You need to apply to SAAS each year of study to have your tuition fees paid directly to UWS. TUITION FEE INFORMATION - UK, IRISH & GIBRALTARIAN STUDENTS: Eligible students who are domiciled in England, Wales, or Northern Ireland as well as from the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, Gibraltar or the Republic of Ireland will qualify for tuition fees of £9,250 per academic session of study to a maximum of three years if you are studying on a four year bachelor degree course (eg. BAcc (Hons) / BA (Hons) / BEng (Hons) / BSc (Hons)). So, if your degree is four years' duration, you will only be charged tuition fees for three years. Similarly, if you are studying a five year integrated master's degree course (eg. MEng (Hons)) the you will only be charged tuition fees for four years. TUITION FEE INFORMATION - INTERNATIONAL (NON-EU) & EU STUDENTS: These tuition fees apply to all non-EU, EEA, and all other EU students (excluding those from Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar, whose fee level is as per UK (non-Scottish) students - see section above for more details). ADDITIONAL COSTS: The cost of attending university is an investment in your future career. In addition to tuition fees and living expenses, some courses involve extra costs such as consumable study materials, field trips, equipment and uniforms.
