Course summary
The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Computing is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the computing sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. In addition, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in computing give students experience of the breadth and depth that will prepare students for further study or training. The programme is a non-specialist ‘Computing’ pathway, without committing to a particular professional specialism. As a result, Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Computing programme is valued by companies and employers, and is perfect for individuals who wish to have a more of a ‘hands-on’ experience with their studies and is also valuable in preparing students for life at university.
Modules
The unit combinations and the list of optional units are: Mandatory Units: Computing Research Project (Pearson-set) Business Intelligence Optional units Cloud Computing Network Security Advanced Programming E-Commerce & Strategy Artificial Intelligence Cisco “CCNAv7”, Cisco “Cybersecurity Essentials” & Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing are integrated in the BTEC L5 HND in computing programme. Actual optional units may be subject to change if sufficient number of students decide to follow one of the six specialist pathways offered by Pearson. The course will also develop a broad range of transferable skills, which include communicating, team work, planning & organising, problem solving, IT skills and numerical techniques. The course also includes two vendor qualifications: CompTIA Security+ CompTIA Cloud+. CompTIA certificates will be administrated separately through Pearson VUE testing centres, which we offer in Uxbridge College and delivered during the student breaks, i.e. December, February, April & May. Passing or failing the 2 vendor qualifications tests will have no impact on the BTEC HND+ Computing progression.
Assessment method
Assessment is through a series of assignments including 95% written assignments, 4% group work, 1% presentations. the grades in each subject unit are shown as: pass merit distinction
Qualified teacher status (QTS)
To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
