Course summary

Through the course, you focus on areas such as the relationship between linguistics and second language learning; the methodology and techniques of language teaching; and the appropriate development of materials for language teaching and learning purposes. You also explore current issues in ELT and have the opportunity to carry out a major piece of individual research on a topic of your interest. The course offers you professional training and development, and includes practical classroom experience on placement, with observed and assessed teaching practice. On successful completion, you achieve Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Q status, meaning you are fully qualified in British Council terms. Why choose this course? In order to meet the requirements you must study and pass all the units included in the course diet and particularly the observed and assessed Teaching Practice unit.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a good undergraduate degree at Honours level, or equivalent. For non-native speakers of English IELTS 6.5 overall, or equivalent, with no score lower than 6.0. A good 1st degree, and/or a recognised TEFL/TESOL certificate and/or relevant teaching experience. Students who hold a DELTA or equivalent qualification may be considered to have the teaching practice element of this course compensated for prior learning.
