OVERVIEW Do you often wonder why people think, feel and behave the way they do? Do you also have a strong interest in education and how psychology applies? Then our BSc (Hons) Psychology with Education, with its contemporary curriculum with application to the modern world, is for you. You will explore a range of core psychological perspectives to help you better understand human mind and behaviour and develop your reflective skills to understand more about the application of psychology, preparing you to reach your future goals. Alongside exploring theory in the classroom and its application to contemporary societal challenges, you will also have practical opportunities to develop your research and experimental skills in our state-of-the-art psychology lab. Our practitioner academics and our regional partners who work in psychology-related fields will equip you to work in a diverse range of jobs or progress to study on one of our applied postgraduate courses. Practical work-based learning outside of the university and additional training around mental health are all included in this course and will ensure you are ready to put your knowledge and skills into practice. The course will raise questions such as how do individual differences effect academic achievement? You will study modules across the psychology areas, and three bespoke modules exploring contemporary application of theory. WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE THIS COURSE
- PROFESSIONAL BODY STANDARDS – Written to the standards set by the professional body for psychology and accreditation will be applied for before the course starts in September 2025
- INDUSTRY-FOCUSED MODULES – You will have modules shaped to develop the skills valued by employers and get to conduct research you are passionate complete with client interaction
- WORK-BASED LEARNING – In your third year of study, you will be able to put your psychological theory into practice by taking on practical work-based learning to give you real understanding of using psychology in education-related environments
- NO EXAMS - If you are not keen on exams, this course is for you. Unlike many degrees in this field, you will have no written exams during or at the end of the course and will be assessed through practical assessments and coursework only
- EXPERT TUITION – You will be taught and led by BPS Chartered Psychologists so you emerge as a graduate with a strong skill base for working across education-related contexts, preparing you for progression onto a MSc
- ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION – In your first year, you will undertake mental health first aid training to gain a certificate to use in your work-based learning or future work opportunities

Modules
YEAR 1: Psychology within Diverse Communities, Applied Psychology, Individual Differences and Personality, Introduction to Psychological Research Methods, Fundamentals of Educational Psychology, Mental Health and Wellbeing. YEAR 2: Psychology across the Lifespan, Qualitative Research Methods, Cognitive Psychology, Biological Psychology, Quantitative Research Methods, Psychology and Inclusive Education. YEAR 3: Core Modules: Psychology Dissertation (40 credits), Psychology in the Real World (Work Based Learning), Therapeutic Approaches in Practice, Applications of Educational Psychology. Optional module (choose one from the following): Applied Forensic Psychology, Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology, Health Psychology.
Assessment method
Note: Indicative information only – actual timetables and assessment regimes will be issued at your induction. You will experience a diverse mix of teaching methods and settings, including traditional lectures, workshops, tutorials, seminars and lab work. Our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) provides you with a range of electronic resources to facilitate face-to-face learning. In addition, you will also be supported with weekly Graduate Advantage sessions as part of your timetabled learning. Your course will include a wide range of innovative authentic assessment methods, as, where possible, the knowledge and skills which you will be assessed against will be mapped onto the real-world skills required in the relevant job market. Assessments will include a combination of written coursework, reports, presentations, reflective pieces, work-based learning and practical assessments. These authentic assessments will reflect workplace scenarios, including psychological assessments and prospective interventions, whilst developing your skills as a reflective practitioner. There will also be a dissertation module, where you will carry out an empirical research project of your choosing. Teaching Example of a typical teaching week (up to 15 contact hours): - Large group teaching – 6 hours - Smaller group teaching – 6 hours - Tutorials – 2 hours. You will also need to commit around 20 hours per week for individual study time. Assessment Estimated breakdown of assessment for this course: - Coursework – 60% - Practical assessment – 40% - Written examinations – 0% - Our teaching and assessment is underpinned by our Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy 2021-2024.

UK:
If you are a UK student enrolling on a Foundation Degree or a BA/BSc at University College Birmingham, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. A half year tuition fee is £4625.
This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s permitted rise).
If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company. You will not start repaying this loan until you leave the course and are earning over £25,000 a year.
