Course summary

This course provides a comprehensive foundation in understanding and supporting individuals with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It explores inclusive practices across educational and care settings, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to promote equity and participation for all learners. Modules

Year One, you will study: • Developing Skills for Learning and Personal and Professional Development • Introduction to and Historical Perspective of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) • Reflective Practice 1 (PDP) • Introduction to reflective practice in the classroom and workplace • The Inclusive Practitioner • Working with Individuals with Sensory and/or Physical Disabilities • Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) & Challenging Behaviours Year Two, You will study: · Contemporary Issues · Understanding Autism · Communication and Language Development · Research Skills · Mental Health Issues and the Impact on Children, Adolescents, and Their Families · Reflective Practice 2 (PDP)

Assessment method

There are no examinations on this programme of study. Each module is assessed individually and throughout the course you will be assessed through the following methods: • Essays • Seminar papers • Group presentations • Individual presentations • Reflective accounts • Research reports • Literature critiques • Work-based projects • Reflective practice portfolio • Out-of-class activities (online, viva voce)

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:

English language requirements

Students who are non-native English speakers, or who have not studied the final two years of school in English, but can demonstrate capability in English at a standard commensurate to IELTS 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 being awarded on individual sections for a level 4, 5 or 6 qualification, will be considered as eligible to apply for the programme/course.
