The BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching degree aims to develop your understanding of the dynamic and complex interactions which exist within the coaching environment. The course will provide you with an insightful awareness of how theory from a range of areas can both inform and be informed by practice in order to develop your critical and innovative problem-solving abilities. You’ll be able to apply your knowledge of the complex and dynamic nature of coaching and combine it with that gleaned from other disciplines such as physiology, biomechanics, psychology, ethics, cultural studies, performance analysis and adapted physical activity. Importantly, during the course you’ll have a variety of opportunities to acquire qualifications associated with different National Governing Bodies. Through a range of practical sessions, work experience opportunities and placements you will foster an appreciation of how you influence and are influenced by coaches, athletes and significant others. These experiences, the knowledge developed during your course and the coaching qualifications give the course a unique position of mixing traditional knowledge and skills with more contemporary approaches to coaching which can be used as a foundation for future employment. Cardiff Met also offers a foundation year for those who aspire to enrol on a Sport based honours degree, who do not have the requirements to start at Year 1. The foundation year will run at the Llandaff campus within the School of Management, and the subsequent years will be based at the Cyncoed campus within the School of Sport and Health Sciences.
