Course summary
Quantum technologies are set to revolutionise society in many ways: from creating new types of computers to solve very difficult problems, very quickly, to making uncrackable communications systems and sensors that operate beyond conventional limits. The University of Bristol has been pioneering in this worldwide effort for more than 15 years with an approach that uses light and optoelectronic technologies to implement the required devices, circuits and systems. On this programme you will gain a deep understanding of the design, fabrication and use of the next generation of integrated circuits, sub-systems and systems that combine optics, electronics and quantum engineering for applications in communications, computing, sensing and healthcare. You will share units with the Quantum Engineering Centre for Doctoral Training and will be taught within the world-leading Quantum Engineering Technology Labs (QETLabs) and graduate with highly desirable and emerging skills in optoelectronic and quantum information technologies.

Entry requirements

Economics and other numerate degrees may be suitable and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you are currently completing a degree, we understand that your final grade may be higher than the interim grades or module/unit grades you have achieved during your studies to date. We will consider your application if your interim grades are currently slightly lower than the programme's entry requirements and may make you an aspirational offer. This offer would be at the standard level, so you would need to achieve the standard entry requirements by the end of your degree. Specific module requirements would still apply. We will also consider your application if your final overall achieved grade is slightly lower than the programme's entry requirement.
