Course summary
On this course you will utilise a range of sporting facilities and activities and will examine sport, teaching and coaching from both an academic and practical perspective via units including – Teaching and Coaching PE (Curriculum Activities and Invasion Games), Skill Acquisition, Physiology, Biomechanics and Nutrition, Research Skills, Sport Psychology, and Youth Sport theory, practice and placement. You will plan and deliver a range of teaching and coaching sessions, examine curriculum, analyse performance and skill learning and develop the academic and employability skills needed in this varied and competitive field.
Modules
Level 4 (Year 1): Academic and Employability Skills (40 credits); Developing Research Skills for Sport and Exercise (20 credits); Fundamentals of Psychology of Sport and Exercise (20 credits); Coaching and Teaching in Sport (20 credits); Teaching and Coaching National Curriculum for Physical Education Activities (20 credits). Level 5 (Year 2): Research and Graduate Employability for Sport and Exercise (40 credits); Coaching, Analysis and Skill Acquisition (40 credits); Advanced Psychology for Sport and Exercise (20 credits); PE & Youth Sport Theory, Practice and Placement (20 credits).
Assessment method
The course is continually assessed through methods which include essays, portfolio, examination, presentations, practical coaching, researched report, viva voce and project work.
