PROGRAMME STRUCTURE You will take three core and three optional courses and undertake a supervised research dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words on an issue relevant to your area of interest. Core courses Descriptions Of Language And Applications To The Classroom Introduction To Educational And Social Research Language Learning And Applications To The Classroom Major Dissertation (TESOL) TESOL optional courses Contemporary Issues in TESOL Course Design And Practice in TESOL Language Learning for Children with English as an Additional Language Language Proficiency, Assessment And Feedback Teaching English as an International Language Teaching English for Academic Purposes Which English? Language Teaching And Sociolinguistics Other optional courses from the School of Education may include: Advanced Educational Research Developing Literacies: An Inclusive Perspective Highly Able Learners, Raising Attainment & Achievement Identities, Relationships and Behaviours in Education Modern Educational Thought A number of optional courses can also be taken from the 20-credit optional courses listed under MSc Applied Linguistics programme, subject to availability and capacity.

Entry requirements

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in English, Education, Applied Linguistics, Translation, English Literature, TESOL/TEFL (UG) or TCSOL (Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages). Modern foreign languages other than English are considered, and a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience (ELT) OR 2.1 Honours degree or non-UK equivalent in a different subject AND teaching qualification, such as CELTA. 2 years relevant work experience is required in addition to these qualifications. A minimum of 2 years post graduate professional relevant work experience is required. We can consider applications from graduates from other fields who have substantial TESOL experience and an evidenced commitment to professional development. Those with a degree in Business English are not normally considered and should apply for the MSc Educational Studies. International students with academic qualifications below those required should contact our partner institution, Glasgow International College, who offer a range of pre-Masters courses.
