During your first year, you will gain essential study skills that will help you transition smoothly onto our three-year Business Management with Law course where you will join a fresh cohort of students, some of whom may not have studied on the foundation year. This foundation year course is the ideal pathway if you’re returning to study, need additional preparation for university, or want to explore your subject in a broader context before beginning your degree. More about this course This Business Management with Law (including foundation year) degree course prepares you with all the skills you will need to succeed in your business and law studies. During the first year, you will learn key transferrable study skills, which will help you develop your studies into an exciting career in business and law. For the next three years, as part of our Business Management with Law degree, you will gain a thorough understanding of essential areas of the business and law sectors. The foundation year is developed under our School of Social Sciences and Professions, and you will explore a wide range of social science themes, whilst also developing the academic and digital literacies that will benefit you in the following three years of study. After the first year, you will be a self-motivated, proactive student, taking responsibility for your own progress and learning. To help you learn about your future course, you’ll also take part in six lecture or seminar sessions with tutors from your chosen degree course, giving you a clear sense of what to expect in the next stage of your degree. You will share your first year with other foundation students from different disciplines, allowing you to share ideas and insights and engage in discussion about subjects ranging from all over the university. Broadening your intellectual horizons and networking with London Met students will further contribute to your academic development. Business topics covered during the course after the foundation year include management, marketing, strategy, data analysis and consultancy. You will also learn about essential aspects of law such as company law, employment law, consumer rights, international trade law, competition law, and regulation. You will learn from published industry experts who bring real-world experience to the classroom. There are also plenty of extra-curricular opportunities which will supplement your studies, as you will have the chance to engage with guest speakers, industry experts, and professional networks through events such as the Mansfield Student Law Society and London Met’s ‘Get into Law’ day.
