Course summary

The Foundation Year Programme is a means of accessing degree study should you not meet the entry requirements for direct access to honours degree/foundation degree programmes. These are four- or five-year courses: students will be assessed at the end of their first year of study and progress to Year 1 of an Honours Degree (BSc Hons/BEng (Hons)) or Foundation Degree (FdSc). A pass at 40% gives straight progression to the BSc (Hons), BEng (Hons) or FdSc route that the student is on (transfer to another route can be requested but is at the receiving course manager's discretion) A pass at 60%+ permits transfer to any BSc (Hons) route, provided any additional requirements (such as work experience) are met. BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Science (+Foundation Year) XD12 The route is the main pathway into our range of Animal Health, Behaviour and Welfare courses. Students will gain core subject-specific knowledge while developing their academic, practical and professional skills across a range of modules. This foundation year leads directly to the Honours Degree route in Applied Animal Science, but also forms the platform for end-of-year transfer (provided key transfer requirements are met) to Veterinary Nursing, Veterinary Physiotherapy, Animal Behaviour and Welfare, and Veterinary Bioscience degree courses. After successful completion of this year, you will be eligible to progress onto the first year of BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Science. If you wish to transfer to BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing, you will need to achieve an average of 60% across the Foundation Year Programme with no less than 60% in the Life Sciences module. Transferring students must also meet Veterinary Nursing vocational and fitness to practice requirements prior to enrolment on the VN programme. If you wish to transfer to BSc (Hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy, you will need to achieve an average of 60% across the Foundation Year Programme with no less than 60% in the following modules: Life Sciences/Vocational Skills Portfolio/Individual Project. Transferring students must also meet fitness to practice requirements prior to enrolment on the VP programme.
