Course summary
Philosophy at Lancaster is pluralistic in approach and, where possible, we are open to engagement and collaboration with other disciplines and institutions. We offer supervision across a broad range of philosophical subjects, and currently have academic colleagues whose areas of research include philosophy of mind and psychology, theoretical and applied ethics, post-Kantian European philosophy, and bioethics. We enjoy good working relationships with related departments and research centres, and joint supervision arrangements are sometimes possible. We aim to support you throughout your work towards a PhD in philosophy at Lancaster through the direct support of your named supervisors and by other members of philosophy staff. We also encourage our postgraduate students to participate in our research community for example through the sharing and discussing of their work and by contributing to reading groups, work in progress meetings, visiting speaker seminars, professional development classes, and research conferences.
