Our BA Italian undergraduate degree invites you to engage with the language and culture across a range of topics, from Medieval Italy and the Italian Renaissance to contemporary Italian literature, film, politics and media. Our Italian department at the University of Birmingham has an excellent staff-student ratio and a friendly, nurturing learning environment. Knowledge of Italian can greatly benefit you in roles spanning numerous industries, from business and marketing to translation and teaching. Optional modules may include:

Our BA Italian is flexible, meaning you'll be able to major in Italian with a second minor language, or choose study it as a Joint Honours, where your second language holds equal weighting. Pathway options you can also choose the option of Translation Studies alongside one or two languages. One of the most exciting elements of this degree is that you'll experience living and studying in a year abroad. Why study this course? Flexibility - choose to combine Italian with ONE or TWO additional languages, Translation, Business Management, Linguistics, English Literature, History, History of Art or Music. Practice as a professional – Develop your skills with our state-of-the-art Interpreting Suite with Televic interpreting desks and sound proof booths at the same professional standard as the United Nations. More than fluent – Choose vocational modules in areas such as Translation, Language Teaching, Legal Culture, Business and more; leading into a wide range of career prospects with the help of our Careers and Employability team. Focused academic contact – We pride ourselves on competitive contact hours. These take place within small groups, encouraging active language learning through engagement with cultural material (beginners will receive more support in English, as appropriate). Multicultural city – Learn in a vibrant city that is culturally, ethnically and religiously diverse.
