Course summary

The one-year, full-time Higher National Diploma Top-up in Music (Performance) builds on students’ learning during the Higher National Certificate in Music. Students will continue to develop academic, creative and performance skills and gain a wide experience of music in a variety of contexts. The focus of this course is to provide students with the skills necessary to flourish as a performer in the music industry. Students study the various elements of performance and composition with an emphasis on artist development. This equips students with the experience and knowledge to create and perform their own music whilst developing essential skills to support their careers in the music industry. On completion of the course, students may progress to the one-year BA (Hons) Music (Top-Up) or advance their careers in the music industry.

Qualification requirements

It is expected that all applicants will hold relevant Level 2 maths and English qualifications equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 or above. Mature students: The University Centre welcomes applications from mature students who have relevant experience in lieu of the minimum entry requirements. Mature students (over 21) without formal qualifications may be accepted subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy tests, work experience (if applicable) and a strong personal statement. Recognition of Prior Learning: Applicants may meet entry requirements through the process of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which awards academic credits through recognition of prior learning via work and other life experiences. Recognition of Prior Learning is either certificated (RPCL) through formal assessment, or Experiential (RPEL) via skills and knowledge developed through work and voluntary activities.
