Course summary

Mental health nursing is a demanding yet rewarding career. The programme will give you the knowledge and skills to help people have more involvement and control over their mental health by promoting and supporting them in a variety of health and social care settings. Upon completing this approved course, you will be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse. You will:

  • Work towards NMC (Nursing & Midwifery Council) registration via an accelerated route while gaining a highly regarded master's qualification.
  • Combine theoretical learning (50%) with practical clinical experience (50%).
  • Study within an interprofessional learning environment.
  • Have the opportunity to go on an international placement to experience care outside the UK.

Assessment method

Assessment methods include a range of coursework assessments such as essays, reports, portfolios, presentations, OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations), and examinations. The grades from formal summative assessments count towards your module mark. The approximate percentage of the course assessed by coursework is as follows: Year 1: 50% coursework, 50% practical; Year 2: 50% coursework, 50% practical.

Entry requirements

- **Academic Qualifications:** A 2:1 undergraduate degree or above in any discipline. - **GCSEs:** Maths and English at grade C/4 or above. - **800 Hours of Health and/or Social Care Experience:** As part of the application process, you must provide evidence of 800 hours of health and/or social care experience within the last five years. This experience can come from various settings, such as charity work, educational and voluntary roles, caregiving, or paid/unpaid work.
