Course summary
From September 2023, this course will be taught at UA92’s brand new Business School in Manchester City Centre. Details of the exact campus location will be confirmed in due course. This Accelerated, two-year interdisciplinary Accounting and Business Management degree course will prepare you for a future in business or finance sectors. Career paths include accountancy, auditing, tax advisory, wealth management, banking, business development, project management, marketing and organisational leadership. You will study core accountancy modules, together with business management modules. Giving you an in depth understanding of the critical role of an accounting professional and how they operate in complex business organisations. You will look at the factors that influence business decisions, how organisations are structured and the importance of financial reporting. As a result, you will be able to provide responsible financial or organisational leadership to a range of businesses from small enterprises to FTSE 100 companies. This course will enable you to: • Understand the critical role accounting and finance professionals play in achieving legal, ethical and efficient practices, • Learn how to support innovation and manage resources to deliver outstanding results for organisations, investors and consumers • Analyse the key societal, environmental and technological influences that impact businesses and the expectations for accountability • Develop skills in management accounting and financial reporting • Develop a broad understanding of organisational structures and how complex business organisations improve business performance or deliver efficiencies. • Focus on contemporary issues such as operating in a global business environment and digitalisation.
Modules
Level 4 Module 1- Business and Technology You’ll get to grips with the basic concepts required for effective business management, understand the critical role accounting and finance professionals play in achieving ethical and efficient practices and develop knowledge in key areas such as law and regulations, governance and data protection. Module 2-Economics for Business You will study the basic principles of the Macro and Micro-environment, the effects of government intervention on the market, supply and demand, and market outcomes. Module 3- Introduction to Financial Accounting You will gain an understanding of the basic principles and concepts of financial accounting, the elements that make up financial statements, and how they are prepared. Module 4- Introduction to Management Accounting In this module you will gain an understanding of the financial and managerial concepts required to enable managers to make better decisions, the purpose of applying costing techniques, as well as the role of budgets in decision-making and how this can impact organisational behavior and performance. Level 5 Module 1- Financial Reporting You’ll study the conceptual framework used when preparing financial statements and how to apply them. You’ll also develop the skills and techniques used to analyse and interpret financial statements such as ratio analysis. Module 2-Advanced Management Accounting You’ll gain an understanding of the concepts and techniques used to develop a business strategy, approaches to management accounting such as strategic pricing, risk analysis and project appraisal techniques, and the techniques and theories surrounding management accounting. Module 3- Corporate and Business Law In this module, you’ll develop knowledge and skills in specific legal areas relating to accounting and finance and recognise the need to seek specialist legal advice when necessary. Module 4-Financial Management You’ll develop your knowledge and learn how to exercise professional judgment in relation to the financial management function. By understanding working capital management and the need for investment appraisal and business valuations, you’ll be able to make justified recommendations relating to the financial management of an organisation in private and public sectors. Level 6 Module 1- Advanced Financial Reporting You will learn to compare and contrast sources of funding for various projects, analyse and provide recommendations on findings from the interpretation of financial statements and identify the limitations of the tools available for interpreting financial statements. Module 2- Taxation You’ll get to grips with the tax systems relating to individuals and groups of companies, as well as the various areas of tax including corporation tax, VAT and income tax; understand the importance of accuracy and the implications surrounding incorrect calculations. Module 3- Audit and Assurance You’ll gain an understanding of the importance and process of audit and assurance within an organisation and the regulatory framework governing accounting and finance practitioners. Module 4- Project In this module, you will complete either a live project from one of our partners or a dissertation on an area of interest, that demonstrates your research and problem-solving skills.
