Course summary

Twilight Canterbury Campus The Childhood Studies BA top-up is the next phase of study if you have successfully completed a relevant foundation degree. This one-year course will enable you to top-up your qualification to a full BA degree. If you are working on a paid or voluntary basis with children and young people in a setting such as a school, nursery, youth group or library service, or working in childcare or foster care, this course is a great option. From being immersed in the educational setting and engaged in academic study, you’ll deepen your knowledge of the factors that shape children’s development and learning, their identities, and the critical periods that influence their development into adulthood. Through inquiry, debate, reflection, and a purposeful integration of literature and current evidence related to child development and special educational needs and disabilities, you’ll make meaningful connections to develop your practice and impact. You'll examine child development from a range of perspectives, exploring psychology, sociology, policy and the history of education. The practical nature of this course means you'll be able to apply newly acquired knowledge directly to your practice, as an evidence-informed professional.
