Course summary
Our Media and Communications degree provides an academic, creative and critical understanding of the media for roles in a variety of creative industries and backgrounds. Students on the Media and Communications course learn how to produce creative content in a variety of media, enabling them to adapt communications for diverse audiences and preparing them for a wide range of professional roles. They explore digital content, moving image, art direction, copywriting, and a variety of other visual and written communications used in branding, journalism and activism. The degree has a strong employment focus, building up skills through practical modules, critical and research modules, and industry modules. Students can choose between two pathways, specialising in years 2 and 3. The Digital Cultures pathway offers a diverse choice of industry-specific modules, inviting students to select options in audio-visual practice, social media curation, journalism and branding. The Creative Communications pathway, designed in partnership with internationally renowned advertising agency M&C Saatchi's London HQ, consists of modules focused on creative content production within advertising contexts, allowing students to adapt to a wide range of roles in branding and advertising industries. Both pathways are taught by an experienced team of academics and industry professionals, and are informed by research, consultancy work and the day-to-day business of communications practice - preparing students for graduate careers in branding, advertising, in-house communications, PR, marketing, content management and social media.
