Course summary
This course has been designed to give you the core knowledge, skills and techniques that all product designers require, irrespective of future specialism, to achieve success in the engineering marketplace. It builds on a body of specialist knowledge, skills and techniques in order to be successful in a wide range of careers in Product Design Engineering at the incorporated engineer level. It will allow you to develop a critical understanding of the influences of the processes of products design and technological activities and deploy them within a digital environment. You will also gain knowledge, understanding and skills of production processes to a range of design and digital fabrication technologies and use digital technologies and information handling skills to enhance your design and technological capabilities. You will also be able to recognise and overcome challenges and constraints when working towards the design and development of high-quality, environment-friendly and low-cost products. The course develops your critical awareness and your ability to research and synthesise complex information and knowledge and to identify, evaluate and mitigate risks associated with a particular project or activity and adopt a holistic and proportionate approach to the mitigation of security risks.
