Our integrated foundation degrees are for those of you who possess the capability to pursue a degree but do not have the pre-requisite qualifications to directly apply to your desired course. The duration of the foundation element is one year, and, if you successfully pass, you will automatically progress on to the degree. What is computer science – and why study the subject at university? Instrumental to our day-to-day lives, computers are vital to a progressive society. The study of computation, computer science also focuses on automation, algorithms and programming. Our Computer Science course follows a core computing programme in the second year alone, allowing you to gain fundamental skills and knowledge to prepare you for more advanced topics. Why Study Computer Science with Foundation Year BSc(Hons) at University of Huddersfield? Our Computer Science degree allows you to hone vital skills to better succeed in this fast-paced industry – and, like previous graduates, you could go on to secure a role within, for example, AI programming or DevOps. This course will see you explore subjects including software engineering, object-orientated programming, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). During your second year, you have the flexibility to transfer to other courses sharing a common second year, including Computing BSc(Hons), Software Engineering BSc(Hons), and Computer Science MSci. In your third year and final year on this Computer Science degree course, you'll have the chance to take option modules, enabling you to tailor your studies to meet your specific interests. Assessment method

You’ll be taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and practical sessions. Course emphasis is on the development of sound practical skills, alongside an understanding of theory. Assessment includes, primarily coursework, quizzes, in-class tests, presentations, and demonstrations. There are opportunities for group working, in addition to individual assessments.
