Course summary
Biomedical Engineering applies engineering principles to the human body and a broad range of instrumentation used in modern medicine. The subject combines engineering and medicine to produce the next generation of biomedical engineers. With strong industry links the department is developing new technologies and making advances for the future of personalised health care. Engineering offers an enormous range of career opportunities for graduates. If you do not have typical entry qualifications, or are an overseas student without the entry requirements for the first year, the integrated foundation year is designed to provide wider access to accredited honours degrees. Our Biomedical Engineering degrees have three themes:
- Biomechanics and materials – the development and analysis of materials for strength and biocompatibility
- Instrumentation – advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques
- Bioprocesses – physical and chemical processes in the human body
