Course summary
This is one of several specialist routes available in our BA (Honours) Social Sciences. You'll study core modules in interdisciplinary social science and sociology, giving you a firm grounding in ideas central to the social sciences. This will be combined with exploring contemporary economic issues and learning the theory needed to engage in current economic debates. You'll analyse and assess different types of evidence, including economic data, and carry out an economics project. On completion, you’ll be able to apply economic and social theories and analytical techniques to topics that affect individuals and society. Key features of the course

Modules
This degree has three stages. At Stage 1, you’ll begin with a broad introductory module exploring key concepts, evidence and sources of knowledge in the social sciences, examining topics from criminology, development, economics, geography, politics, philosophy, religious studies, and sociology. You'll then study two modules, with one focusing on personal finance, and the other giving you a critical perspective on economics in our daily lives. At Stage 2 you'll explore how the social world is being transformed by the internet and digital technology. You’ll also investigate contemporary economic issues and theories, applying a range of models and techniques to real-world scenarios such as how markets work, managing the national economy, competition, international trade, unemployment and inflation. At Stage 3 you’ll choose from a range of social science modules. You’ll complete your degree by learning about the economic theories and techniques used to explain the behaviour of people in households, firms, markets and governments.
