Mechanical engineers are found in every aspect of the engineering industry. They are innovative professionals, transforming ideas into inventions. Mechanical Engineering is a key discipline in today’s highly technological society, and mechanical engineers are involved in the design and manufacture of almost everything you see or touch. This degree will train you for a rewarding career in a wide range of engineering sectors and develop the key skills required to become a professional engineer. You will gain the ability to use analytical skills and tools to formulate and solve problems relevant to the application of engineering to industry. The degree will also provide a foundation for you to aim for the prized Chartered Engineer status. Modules

In Year 1, you will typically study areas including: Engineering Design, Engineering for People Hackathon, Data analysis and simulation, Introduction to Materials Engineering, Engineering Mathematics (EEE, General and Mech), Applied Mechanics (Mechanical and General), Manufacturing Technology, Thermofluids. In Year 2, you will typically study areas including: AI, Machine Learning and Data Analysis, Machines and Control, Thermofluids, Mechanical Engineering Design and Practice, Research Project Preparation, Engineering Tutorials, Dynamics and Stress Analysis. In Year 3, you will typically study areas including: Engineering Management (Aero, EEE, Mech), Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotics, Finite Element Method, Individual Engineering Project, Dynamics, Mechanical Engineering Practice and Design, Fluid Mechanics and others. In Year 4, you will undertake a study abroad placement. In Year 5 (MEng), you will typically study areas including: Advanced Thermo Fluid Mechanics, Group Project (Mechanical & Materials&EEE), Advanced Solid Mechanics, Power Generation Systems, Sustainability and Environmental Assessment, Reliability and Maintenance Engineering, Additive Manufacturing, Business Leadership for Engineers, Simulation Based Product Design and Metallurgy and Alloy Design.
