Course summary

The Public Services landscape is incredibly versatile, constantly changing and adapting in order to meet the requirements of modern contemporary issues that impact the lives of millions of people within society. Issues ranging from offender management within the criminal justice system to marginalisation, societal inequalities, policy development and finance and funding. If you are motivated by the opportunity to make a difference in the modern world then a career in the public services is for you. Public service organisations actively look for innovative, creative and inspiring individuals to lead their services, this level 6 qualification is tailored to promote these skills and qualities and apply them to real world circumstances, alongside disseminating and evaluating leadership and management roles and responsibilities within a public service context. • The programme is supported and influenced by public service organisations to ensure its relevance. • Guest speakers from within industry putting theory into context. • You’ll be taught by staff with industry experience within the public services. • You will have professional development opportunities and be encouraged to gain industry experience.

Modules

The programme will consist of small lectures, theory seminars, discussion groups and workshops as well as project work, reflection and independent study. You will be required to work in groups as well as independently. You will be required to plan, deliver and evaluate in a range of practical settings and environments as well as prepare for classes by research and completing activities as directed by the course tutors. Core modules: • Contemporary Issues and the impact on Public Services (20 credits) • Leadership and Management in the Context of Public Services (20 credits) • Emergency and Disaster Management (20 credits) • Professional Context Project (20 credits) • Dissertation (40 credits)

Assessment method

There are no formal examinations and most modules are likely to be assessed via a variety of coursework methods. Coursework assessments are likely to include essays, reports, presentations, professional meetings, research and reflections and group activities as well as undertaking a Dissertation which includes a Research Proposal and Ethics submission
